About the Program
Platte County Can (Change Attitudes Now) is a non-profit, proactive, student-run anti-drug and alcohol program based in Platte County, Wyoming. The schools involved in this program are Chugwater High School, Wheatland High, Guernsey Sunrise High, and Glendo High. We are dedicated to the idea that most people are willing and able to make good and healthy choices and with a bit of reward and encouragement kids will more confidently make the right choices regarding illegal drugs and underage drinking.
On the surface, CAN is a membership-based service provider. We provide our members with technology access, sponsor events and awards, promote healthy choices, and help crate a sense of community for the students of Platte County schools.
At it's heart, however, CAN is a life philosophy. While most anti-drug and alcohol programs are reactive, CAN is overwhelmingly proactive. We are not here to punish or reform kids who have fallen into drug addictions or drinking problems; rather, we are here to reward normal kids simply for doing the right thing. Our members recieve daily benefits just for being themselves and living a drug-free and alcohol-free life. CAN serves as a reminder that healthy choices tend to bring about good things, and we hope it's a lesson that the students of today can carry with them to the families and careers of tomorrow.
So who can be a CAN member? Anyone can...and it's free! All you have to do is agree to remain free of illicit drugs and underage drinking. We generally target the students of Platte County schools (grades 4 and up) and school faculty, but we're always willing to consider other cases.
There is a way to win the war on drugs and alcohol. Platte County CAN...can you?!
